Giving kids the power to walk, run, and dream.
Aladdin Shriners Hospital Association for Children, Inc. (ASHAC) is a 501(c)3 charity that is here to help children in our area with expenses for medical care for conditions that align with those treated at Shriners Hospitals for Children. These include burns, orthopedic conditions, cleft lip and palate, and more. ASHAC works together with Shriners Hospitals for Children, to assure the best care possible regardless of the patient’s or the patient’s family’s ability to pay. We also provide transportation to Shriners Hospitals for Children and cover the cost related to travel to and from the hospitals. Beyond that, we help with specialized equipment such as wheel chairs, orthopedic braces, specialty shoes, and other items that children with these conditions may need. If you or someone you know may benefit from this program, please review the links below.
FAQs About Our Program
Is ASHAC an insurance company?
ASHAC is not an insurance company. We are a charitable organization that helps families manage medical costs that remain after insurance benefits have been applied. Please list your primary insurance on any care facility documents, not ASHAC.
Will ASHAC cover all of my child’s expenses?
ASHAC helps with eligible costs that have been pre-approved by our board. To receive pre-approval, we’ll need an estimate of the patient’s responsibility after insurance. Every
request is reviewed individually.
Can I choose any care facility for my child’s treatment?
ASHAC may assist with treatment at the facility of your choice, depending on the type of care and out-of-pocket costs. If a procedure isn’t approved, we’ll refer your child to Shriners Children’s, where they’ll receive exceptional care regardless of your ability to pay. ASHAC can also help with travel and lodging if treatment is provided through Shriners Children’s.
When can ASHAC begin helping with my child’s expenses?
Support begins once your child’s application has been reviewed and approved by our Board of Trustees. Services provided before acceptance into the program are not covered.
Is acceptance into the ASHAC program guaranteed?
Most children who meet our eligibility guidelines are accepted. Approval is based on factors such as your child’s age, home address, condition, and medical needs.
What other support does ASHAC provide?
ASHAC can also assist with medically necessary equipment such as wheelchairs, braces, and other adaptive devices. All equipment must receive prior approval and may require
multiple bids.
Does ASHAC help with physical therapy?
Yes. ASHAC can assist with physical therapy costs, subject to limits on the number of sessions and the amount covered per visit.
Annual Distribution
Every year ASHAC does a distribution of excess funds to support Shriners Hospitals for Children, and local agencies that help children with conditions for which we treat. These agencies can be first responders, schools, or any other group that helps children with orthopedic or burn conditions. Applications are available year round, and are accepted from February 16th through April 1st for the 2026 distribution.
Once the applications are received they are reviewed by a committee, presented to the ASHAC board, and those approved are submitted to our headquarters in Tampa for final approval. This is typically done by the end of June each year, and checks are distributed by the end of July.
All applications must be signed by a Shriner in good standing with Aladdin, and the agency must be within Aladdin’s jurisdiction. Agencies that do not qualify for this program are hospitals and other 501(c)3 organizations.
